This section is designed to measure the ability to understand spoken English. It contains three parts, each administered by audio recording.

This listening test is organized by LISTER, and it will be used for TOEFL ITP Level 2 questions.

STRUCTURE AND WRITTEN EXPRESSION

Time–25 minutes (including the reading of the directions)

This section is designed to measure your ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English. There are two types of questions in this section, with special directions for each type.

This practice test is organized by Lister and is intended for TOEFL ITP Level 1 Listening Practice.

STRUCTURE

Directions: Questions 1-10 are incomplete sentences. Beneath each sentence you will see four words or phrases, marked (A), (B), (C), and (D). Choose the one word or phrase that best completes the sentence. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and fill in the space that corresponds to the letter of the answer you have chosen.

Look at the following examples.

Example I

The political campaign ____ seasonal welfare for print-on-demand businesses.

(A) brought

(B) it brought

(C) recently

(D) fortunately

The sentence should read, “The political campaign brought seasonal welfare for print-on-demand businesses.” Therefore, you should choose (A).

Example II

When _____ the new hero?

(A) the developer published

(B) will the developer publish

(C) the developer will publish

(D) the developer’s publishing

The sentence should read, “Then will the developer publish the new hero?” Therefore, you should choose (B).

WRITTEN EXPRESSION

Directions: In questions 11-25, each sentence has four underlined words or phrases. The four underlined parts of the sentence are marked (A), (B), (C), and (D). Identify the one underlined word or phrase that must be changed in order for the sentence to be correct. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and fill in the space that corresponds to the letter of the answer you have chosen.

Look at the following examples.

Example I

There are eight element discussed in the game.

A                       B              C          D

The sentence should read, “There are eight elements discussed in the game.” Therefore, you should choose (B).

Example II

The development taking more than 18 months.

A                              B                 C        D

The sentence should read, “The development took more than 18 months.” Therefore, you should choose (B).

READING COMPREHENSION

Time–55 minutes (including the reading of the directions)

This section is designed to measure your ability to read and understand short passages similar in topic and style to those that students are likely to encounter in North American universities and colleges.

This practice test is organized by Lister and is intended for TOEFL ITP Level 1 Listening Practice.

Directions:

In this section, you will read several passages. Each one is followed by several questions about it. You must choose the one best answer (A), (B), (C), or (D) to each question. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and fill in the space that corresponds to the letter of the answer you have chosen. Answer all questions about the information in a passage based on what is stated or implied in that passage.

Read the following passage:

1 Living without prejudice is a noble aspiration, but it

2 is an extremely challenging endeavor given the inherent

3 biases that are ingrained in human cognition and societal

4 structures. Prejudices often develop from early

5 experiences, cultural norms, and human tendencies to

In line 1, the word “noble” is closest in meaning to ….

(A) Royal

(B) Masterful

(C) Honorable

(D) Throne

The passage states that living without prejudice is a noble aspiration, yet very challenging. We are not talking about some sort of royalty here, so take out answer (A) and (B). We are also not talking about mastery of a certain skill, so take out answer (B). Therefore, answer (C) is the best option.

Example II

Which of the following is not mentioned about from where prejudices often develop?

(A) Early experiences

(B) Values of a society

(C) Cultural norms

(D) Human tendencies to categorize

Option (B) is not mentioned in the lines that discuss from where prejudices often develop (lines 4-6). Therefore, you should choose (B).
