Every day, Bawang Putih had to do all the chores—cooking, cleaning, fetching water, and washing clothes—while her stepmother and Bawang Merah enjoyed a comfortable life. Even though she was treated unfairly, Bawang Putih never complained.
One day, while washing clothes in the river, Bawang Putih accidentally lost one of her stepmother’s scarves. Afraid of being scolded, she followed the river until she met an old woman who had found the scarf. The old woman asked Bawang Putih to help her with some tasks. With kindness and patience, Bawang Putih agreed.

Seeing this, Bawang Merah and her mother became greedy. They purposely lost another scarf and went to the river, hoping to meet the old woman. But unlike Bawang Putih, they were rude and refused to help. In the end, they still received a pumpkin, but when they opened it, poisonous snakes and dangerous creatures came out.
From that day on, Bawang Merah and her mother regretted their greed, while Bawang Putih lived happily with her kindness rewarded.

Once upon a time, in West Sumatra, lived a poor widow and her only son named Malin Kundang. They were very poor, but Malin grew up to be a strong and smart young man.

After many years, Malin became a wealthy merchant. He married a beautiful woman and had a big ship full of treasures. One day, he returned to his hometown. Hearing this, his mother rushed to the shore to meet him.
But when she called out to her son, Malin was ashamed of her poor appearance. In front of his wife and crew, he denied her and said he did not know the old woman.

Long ago, in a village near Mount Telomoyo in Central Java, lived a poor widow and her son, Baru Klinting. Despite their simple life, Baru Klinting was kind and hardworking. However, the villagers often mocked and mistreated him because of his ragged appearance.
One day, the village held a grand feast, but they did not invite Baru Klinting or his mother. Feeling hungry, Baru Klinting came to the celebration and politely asked for some food. The villagers cruelly rejected him and even drove him away.
Saddened by their arrogance, Baru Klinting revealed his true form—a mighty dragon. He challenged the villagers to prove his power by pulling a large stick he had planted in the ground. None of them succeeded. When Baru Klinting pulled it out, water gushed from the hole, flooding the entire village.
Only one poor widow and her child, who had kindly given food to Baru Klinting earlier, were saved. They were told to climb into a mortar (a rice pounder) that floated and protected them from the flood.
The village was drowned, and in its place appeared a vast lake, known today as Rawa Pening in Central Java.

She promised that whoever picked it up for her would become her husband. A dog named Tumang brought it to her, and by magic, he turned into a man. They married and had a son named Sangkuriang.
Sangkuriang grew into a strong and brave young man. He loved hunting with his father, Tumang, but he did not know that Tumang was actually his father. One day, Sangkuriang killed Tumang in anger and brought the meat home. When Dayang Sumbi found out, she was furious and struck him. Sangkuriang left the house, wandering far away.
Many years later, Sangkuriang returned as a handsome man. He met Dayang Sumbi, but he did not recognize her as his mother. They fell in love, and Sangkuriang asked her to marry him. When Dayang Sumbi realized he was her son, she was shocked and tried to stop the marriage.

Miraculously, the sea spirits welcomed her, and the curse was lifted. Kadita transformed into a powerful and eternally beautiful goddess, known as Nyi Roro Kidul.

One day, she discovered her missing shawl hidden by Jaka Tarub. Heartbroken, she put on the shawl and returned to heaven, leaving her husband and child behind.
From that day on, Telaga Bidadari became a symbol of love, trust, and the pain of broken promises. The story is still told as a reminder to keep faith and honesty in relationships.

From that fiery eruption, a great mountain was formed. The mountain spewed fire, lava, and smoke. That mountain is what we now call Mount Merapi, one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia.

She soon realized that it was the golden snail who magically transformed into a girl while she was away.
One day, the prince of Daha went hunting and heard about the miraculous golden snail. When he saw Keong Mas transform back into the beautiful Dewi Limaran, he recognized her at once. With the power of his love and prayers, the curse was finally broken.
Dewi Limaran returned to her true form, and she married the prince. The widow who had cared for her was also rewarded with kindness. The legend of Keong Mas is still remembered as a tale of kindness, humility, and the power of love to break any curse.
